A Land of High Rises
Project completed in 2016
This series of photos was inspired by the frenetic rise of soulless look-alike apartment complexes everywhere in Seoul, and by the recent events at Okbaraji Alley (옥바라지골목). This is an historic neighborhood that is being bulldozed while some residents are still living there and protesting the demolition.
As a lover and avid photographer of those alleys with their tiny shops and their unique character, it is a pain to see them slowly disappearing. I highly recommend reading the following article to learn about how this is happening: https://koreaexpose.com/resisting-seouls-brutal-apart-ization/.
